Sensors and Input Detection
Common sensor types
Section titled “Common sensor types”- potentiometers
- Hall-effect sensors
- load cells
- pressure sensors
- encoders and switches
What matters
Section titled “What matters”The important differences are repeatability, durability, noise sensitivity, calibration drift, mechanical integration, and whether the sensor is measuring position, force, or pressure.
That last part matters more than many first-time builders expect. Two pedals can look similar and still feel completely different if one measures travel and the other measures force.
Why it matters
Section titled “Why it matters”Sensor choice shapes the feel and maintenance profile of pedals, joysticks, throttles, shifters, and button interfaces.
It also affects how much calibration drift, wear, and mechanical slop you end up fighting later.
